Precision Dental Implant Placements in Polk County
The Importance of Dental Implants
Dental implants are among the most important oral health advances of the last few decades. Because they are anchored right into the jawbone, dental implants are much sturdier than bridges and dentures. In fact, they function just like natural teeth – with no restrictions on eating, talking, and no fear of them falling out! At Winter Haven Oral Surgery, we use advanced technology such as CBCT scanners and top-notch materials to give you an exceptional dental implant experience.

Dentures and Jawbone Loss
Dentures (and bridges) are very important tools for treating missing teeth, but they do come with a negative health effect: jawbone loss. The jawbone requires regular stimulation from the chewing and biting actions of teeth to maintain itself. Without teeth, the jawbone rapidly resorbs. Dental implants prevent this problem because they directly stimulate the jaw, just as a natural tooth would.

“Don’t be afraid to Smile.”
For years I’d felt like a part of my body was missing — because my teeth were. My dentist told me that dental implants would make me feel and look a lot better. OK, I said. Now, I’m thrilled. I can smile, eat anything, and enjoy a good laugh with my friends.
How Dental Implants Work
Dental implants are titanium screws that are inserted into the jaw, and onto which a prosthetic crown is attached. Titanium has the unique ability to fuse with bone in the body in a process that takes several months after the initial implant surgery. The bond is so sturdy that the implant is just about as good as a natural tooth once the process is complete.
Surgical Advances in Dental Implants
Using the most recent advances in dental implant technology, Dr. Cornejo and Dr. Ramirez are able to place single stage implants. These implants do not require a second procedure to uncover them, but do require a minimum of six weeks of healing time before artificial teeth are placed. There are even situations where the implant can be placed at the same time as the tooth extraction – further minimizing your number of surgical procedures.
Dental implant placement is a team effort between an oral and maxillofacial surgeon and a restorative dentist. Dr. Cornejo and Dr. Ramirez performs the actual implant surgery, initial tooth extractions, and bone grafting if necessary. The restorative dentist (your dentist) fits and makes the permanent prosthesis. Your dentist will also make any temporary prosthesis needed during the implant process.
